North Korea has yet to state its position on upcoming site inspections at the Kaesong Industrial Complex (KIC) by the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Unification has reported.
Ministry representative Kim Eui Do spoke at a press briefing today, “We know our request has been received, and that it has been reported to superiors. They have not yet provided us with an answer.”
The Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee plan to visit the complex on the 30th. After submitting a request to the Ministry of Unification on the 14th of this month, their intentions were conveyed to the North on the 16th.
The North-South relationship has been strained of late, leading some to question if permission will be granted to the assembly members at all.
Meanwhile, negotiations are continuing at the sub-committee level with the aim of ironing out outstanding issues pertaining to the restart of the KIC. However, even consensus on a schedule has yet to be reached.
Representative Kim added, “The discussions between the secretariats of the North-South Joint Committee are continuing to progress smoothly. Issues are continuing to be negotiated at the subcommittee meetings, but nothing has been determined yet.”
