North Korea has “nothing to gain” in its recent criticism of President Park Geun Hye, South Korea’s Ministry of Unification stated today.
A ministry official announced at a press gathering that, “I don’t want to deal with these hollow criticisms one by one, but I want to point one thing out. North Korea’s slander against the South is going too far.”
The official added, “I don’t know if North Korea thinks it can attract the attention of the South Korean people and the international community through these strong remarks, but (in effect) they will serve to isolate themselves further.”
“While there may be the dignity of one (Kim Jong Eun) in North Korea, there are 50 million ‘dignities’ in the South. The dignity of all of our citizens is threatened. Insulting remarks targeted at President Park, who was elected by the people, must cease.”
Meanwhile, Ministry of Unification spokesperson Kim Eui Do stated at a press briefing yesterday that the North’s statements were “extremely regrettable.” He also urged that North Korea adopt a position of sincerity toward inter-Korean relations.
