The South Korean government has decided to spend $6.3 million from inter-Korean cooperation funds on support for infant care through the World Health Organization (WHO).
A Ministry of Unification spokesperson, Park Soo Jin told a regular briefing this morning, “The government held the 258th meeting of the South-North Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Council, and made this decision.”
The aid will be used to prevent illness and combat stunted growth in North Korea “inadequate public health environment,” Park noted.
The South Korean money is half the $12.6 million that the WHO requires for its project to support North Korean infants. The project encompasses repairs and improvement for public health facilities, training for public health practitioners, and provision of essential medicines.
