President Park Geun Hye, who is in St. Petersburg for the G20 Summit on September 5th and 6th, commented in Russia yesterday, “As mutual trust builds between the South and North, and if denuclearization proceeds, we aim to provide infrastructure support for North Korea.”
President Park’s remarks came in an interview with the Russian ITAR-TASS news agency. She went on to say, “For example: expansion of things like communications, transportation, and power, or joining international organizations. We want to support these kinds of things.”
“Despite their provocations, we’ve agreed to normalize and internationalize the Kaesong Industrial Complex with our consistent policy, and also agreed on reunions for separated families,” she said, stressing, “We will thoroughly deter their provocations, but humanitarian support will continue without regard for the political situation, and the window for dialogue will always be open.”
“We’re ensuring that we build the foundations for peaceful Korean Peninsula reunification, and I want to work create a Republic of Korea that contributes to the happiness of the global village,” she mused. “Korea wants to be able to demonstrate the potential of the Northeast Asian region, and I proposed the plan for peace and cooperation in Northeast Asia with the thought of what role we must play in mind.”
