UN’s Ban to Arrive in South Korea

The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon will arrive in the country on August 22nd to attend the opening ceremony of the World Rowing Championships, which are being held in his hometown of Chungju in North Chungcheong Province.

General-Secretary Ban is expected to give the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the event on the 24th.

In addition, it is anticipated that Ban will also pay a courtesy visit to President Park Geun Hye, who is likely to explain her plan for the development of a DMZ peace park and seek UN support for the concept. He will also meet Prime Minister Jung Hong Won to discuss Korean Peninsula issues and South Korea-UN relations, as well as issues pertaining to peace, security and sustainable development.
