In the late 90s, millions of people died due to the
food shortage in North Korea. North Korean gulags,
and tens of thousands of North Korean defectors who,
one after another, left their homes prove the reality
of the North Korean authoritarian regime. Especially
the abuse and corruption in North Korean politics
signifies that coexistence of the North Korean regime
and the North Korean people is impossible. If the
two are not to coexist, then what we have to do is
clear. Send our love to the people in North Korea
but condemn the North Korean regime.
The Daily NK believes that only ¡®¡±Universal human
rights and democracy¡± can be the most rational standards
through which we could solve many problems occurring
in North Korea. Ending the suffering of the North
Korean people happening to them even at this very
moment is the requirement to achieve Korea¡¯s true
development, national reunification, and peace settlement
in Northeast Asia. The Daily NK will take the lead
in meeting these requirements.
The Daily NK is a North Korea-specific internet newspaper
established by the North Korean Democracy Network.
The Daily NK is starting with those activists who
have been working for North Korea for a long time.
The experts who highly value the scholarly conscience
will broaden readers¡¯ perspectives. We are looking
forward to your interest and participation.
With prayers for North Korean freedom and democracy,
